With the monsoons on waiting for the Ganesh festival to end, so that they can wind up for the season, school children are at their ‘Pele’ best, seen with footballs and stud shoes in their feet raging along with the spirit of the game and the monsoons.Army Public School Dighi was swarmed by 1800 students from various CBSE Schools for the cluster level football meet hosted by the premier Army Public School Dighi. It was a sight to behold as around 1800 students from various schools got together for the inaugural ceremony of the CBSE Cluster level football championship on 5th September which coincided with the Teachers day. Clad in school uniforms, the host students presented themselves with a march past to honour the CBSE emblemed flag on the premises of Rane stadium Bombay Sappers ground.  Mr. Mahesh Dharmadhikari , Regional Director, CBSE, Pune was the guest of honour for the opening ceremony while the Chairman  of Army Public School Dighi Brig. M.J.Kumar  SM, Commandant BEG & Centre was chief guest for the occasion. Col Sunil Bhosle (Retd.) Director AWES Southern Command, Dr. Indrajit Basu, observer CBSEand other esteemed guests chaired the function.

Principal Mrs.  Yasmin Kaur APS Dighi gave a speech to motivate the teams. Balloons were released arking the occasion and students of APS Dighi presented sequential dances and brass symphony to build up the tempo and fervour for the matches.

The clouds loomed low over Dighi hills, the greenery being the lungs for the areas around. The thin clouds witnessed the end of the football spectacle held in training battalion of Bombay sappers Centre and school, Hosted by Army Public School Dighi. The closing ceremony was witnessed by many a students from all over the state. CBSE Cluster schools competed over the last week.

The chief Guest was Mr. Henry Menezes, CEO of Western India Football Association and other dignitaries present were Mr. Pyarelal Choudhary Vice President of Pune District Football Association, DrIndrajit Basu CBSE Observer and Col. Sumeet Vashishth CO TB-2.

The winners were Army Public School Dighi for U/17 category and Navy Children School Goa for U/19 category with their outstanding display of prowess on field. Master Dinesh from APS Dighi won the top scorer award.

APS Dighi had arranged the tournament with minute details and professional acumen, with sports being top priority for CBSE in synch with the national goals to encourage fitness amongst the younger generation. It is also highlighted that CBSE gives additional marks to students for various levels of performance thus encouraging more students to pick sports as a career, without being anxious of their academic results.
