Dighi’s Verdant Initiative
Dighi, August 12, 2024 –
In a heartening endeavour to nurture nature and honour motherhood, Army Public
School, Dighi, in association with BEG & Centre, organized a flourishing
plantation drive amidst the serene landscapes of Dighi Hills. The initiative,
as part of the PM-led national campaign ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,’ witnessed
the spirited participation of 108 students, led by the esteemed Principal Mrs.
Kavita Kadam, along with six devoted teachers. Together, they planted 200
thriving saplings, including neem, banyan, and Indian rosewood.
An officer from BEG & Centre emphasized the
pressing need to confront climate change, reflecting on Pune's shifting climate
due to rampant deforestation. Over the past two years, the Sappers have planted
more than 1 lakh saplings in this area, enhancing Pune’s Forest cover and
protecting its fragile ecosystem This ongoing effort is a reflection of the
commitment to environmental preservation, aligning with the larger goal of
safeguarding our planet. The initiative not only sowed the seeds of
environmental awareness in young minds but also imparted invaluable lessons in
nurturing and caring for the earth. The students departed with a profound sense
of responsibility, eager to return and witness the growth of the saplings they
lovingly planted, firmly embracing their role as guardians of our planet's
future.
